Who would have thought....

That I would ever be Parish Secretary. You see, I'm an outdoors type of person; I'm happiest on the back of a horse in the middle of nowhere. Most of my working career has been either outdoors or as a heavy equipment operator; I was a snowplow operator for over 16 years. But ever since 2000, when my back gave out on me, I've had to accept menial jobs; cashier in convenience stores etc. So when the job opening came up for parish secretary, I didn't even consider applying for it. I've never done this type of work. I am self taught on the computer, and have no accounting experience. One day, a friend of mine said after Mass that I should apply for the job. It felt just like the Holy Spirit kicking me in the butt! I did a lot of praying about it, and decided to apply; my prayer was that if it was for the greater glory of God and my salvation that I would get the job... well, I did, so I guess He has plans for me. Hope I don't disappoint Him!
I'm starting off with a new priest, as ours was transferred, so I'm sure confusion will reign for a while. But I do have some wonderful people who I can call on for help if things go south.
By the grace of God-and the help of those whom I pray to for intersession-I hope to do a good job.

Strength in Unity

My sister over at Salve Regina has posted a call to pray , united, for our country at 6 PM Pacific, 7 PM mountain, 8 PM Central, and 9PM Eastern time. Take a moment to read her post, and join us in prayer so that our many voices will be carried to God as a united, strong force. You can use the following prayer, or make up your own:
O Jesus, I place our nation under the protection of your Sacred Heart. Help us to do your Will so that we may be strengthened against the evil that threatens our country and our world.
St. Michael the Archangel, protect our troops; keep them safe in their tour of duty.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, I place all our people beneath the shelter of your mantle. Virgin Most Powerful, lead us in becoming a Godly nation. Amen.
I will place this prayer on my sidebar under the tag Unity Prayer; feel free to copy it.

Devotions meme

Tom in Vegas tagged anyone who wanted to, with the meme of listing my favorite 5 devotions.
So, here are mine:
1. Like Tom, my foremost devotion is attending Mass, as many as possible, and receiving the Eucharist. It is the best way to start, or end, the day.
2.Praying the Rosary. I've been praying the daily rosary for many years now, and on the very few occasions I forget, I feel like I have missed a very important part of my day.
3.Whenever someone takes the Lord's name in vain, even if it's in a movie, I say "Blessed be God's Holy Name forever!" I used to pray this silently, but lately I vocalize it, sometimes loud enough for the offender to hear- much to their surprise!
4. Several short prayers, which I say throughout the day, my favorite being "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, have mercy on me, a sinner".
5.And last but not least, praying every day for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, and offering my actions and indulgences for their benefit.

If you would like to share your devotions, play along!
